Abstract Alice Warder Garrett was born Alice Warder in 1877. She was married to John Work Garrett in 1908. For much of their marriage, John worked as a United States diplomat, and he and Alice lived in Rome and other European cities. Apache playing cards collection

Butterfly classification manuscript in the Johann Siegfried Hufnagel schemata tradition

Abstract

Johann Siegfried Hufnagel (1724-1795) was a German parson and entomologist (lepidopterist). This item is a manuscript on the classification of butterflies and moths, in the tradition of the schemata proposed by Hufnagel and illustrated with ten original hand-coloured illustrations of butterflies. The item was once owned by Freiherr von Malsen-Ponickau or Cordula [?] Ponickau, or both. This manuscript was approximately created in 1780. The creator is unknown.

Collection consists largely of correspondence and professional papers of American banker and diplomat, John Work Garrett. Included are items from Garrett's foreign service in Venezuela, Argentina, the Netherlands, and Italy. Other materials relate to political events, locally and internationally (1920-1940). Also in the collection is extensive personal correspondence of Garrett and his wife, Alice, which describes personal friendships, travels, entertainments, and cultural interests.

Maryland State House architectural plans

The Maryland State House is located in Annapolis, Maryland and is the oldest U.S. state capitol in continuous legislative use, dating to 1772. The collection consists of an undated elevation and ground plans of the State House, two contracts for plastering and carpentry dating from 1792, and an eight-page "House Account Book" from 1818.

Sarah Elizabeth Freeman papers

Sarah Elizabeth Freeman received her B.A. from Mount Holyoke in 1928, and her Ph.D. in Archaeology from Johns Hopkins in 1934. From 1935 until 1944, she worked as a research assistant in the Johns Hopkins Archaeology Department; in 1944 she was named Curator of Fine Arts for the university. The collection documents Freeman’s work on the Johns Hopkins University coin and medal collection with material dating from 1944 through 1969.

The collection consists of holographic letters and documents of signers of the Declaration of Independence.
